Indeed, all who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. II Timothy 3:12
For all the struggling Christian leaders…
Paul understood what it meant to be abused, hurt, persecuted and chased for his faith in Christ. He had it instantly from the Jews as soon as he came to Jesus, he had it from the Christians for what he had done as a Pharisee, and he had plenty of it from the Romans who didn’t have any use for anyone who questioned the pagan gods of Olympus!
Today I want to encourage ALL Christian leaders who are facing the “heat” of persecution – often from those who claim to live for Christ! It is not easy, fun or pleasant. It can be incredibly discouraging and draining. Yet, every instance of this gives us enormous opportunities to share the authentic love of Christ and claim the power and grace of the Holy Spirit. Persons who are difficult can be reached in some cases. In others, they cannot. They can exercise their free choice to say, “no” and resist more firmly.
Keep in mind – not even Jesus reached everyone! We must try every way we can to love and reach all people, but also know that much of the persecution and pain we hear in the form of criticism and anger has very little to do with us. Let’s see those who are critical through the eyes of Jesus. Yet, there is one major truth we need to make crystal clear.
Do not put or keep negative, hostile and emotionally unstable people in the leadership of your church! Period. If they are there, work to get them to stay in the fellowship, but not the leadership. IF someone wants to place them in the leadership on the grounds that it may change them – BEWARE – in most cases this will be a deadly choice! I love you all.
In Christ’s Grace,
Jim
Prayer: Lord Jesus we want to love all persons. We know there will always be those around us who will have negative and critical attitudes when we seek to speak the Truth and share your Love. Give us discernment and strength to keep the church strong and the leadership free from persons who would be intent to harm the witness of your Bride for their own gain. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
